Design Specification For Shopping Mall Escalator

1. Size

In the architectural design, the step height and width of the escalator in a shopping mall are generally 180×300.

2. Quantity

The number of escalators must meet two selection criteria: ①Meet the transportation capacity; ②Passenger comfort. Regarding the transportation capacity, the passenger flow of the passage width per unit time should be considered, and the selection should be based on the largest passenger flow of the passage under the most congested degree. Regarding passenger comfort, the area and shape of the building should be fully considered. Generally speaking, the service radius of an escalator should not exceed 50m.

Example: A commercial building is a high-end brand specialty store, adopting the shop-in-shop model, and the length of the long side in the business area exceeds 100m, the main aisle width is 3200mm, and the maximum speed of the customer is 0.5m/s, and each person occupies 800mm The radius of the circle area, namely 2 people/㎡, the number of people passing through the main passage within a unit hour q=(0.5m/s)*(2 people/m2)*(3600s/h)*3.2m=11520 people/h. Because it is a two-way dual channel, the number of people using the escalator up and down is 5760, that is, the actual transportation capacity of the escalator is more than 5760. According to the table, the theoretical transportation capacity of the 11000mm step width and 0.5m/s escalator can reach 9,000 people/h, and the actual transportation capacity can reach 6,300 people/h, which meets the transportation capacity. Since the length of the long side in the business area exceeds 100m, two sets of escalators should be selected according to the principle of passenger comfort.

3. Speed

It is generally 0.5 m/s, and some ladders can reach 0.65 m/s, 0.75 m/s.

4. Tilt angle

The escalators set up in the business section of Article 3.1.8 of JGJ 48-88 "Standard Store Building Design Code" shall meet the following requirements: The horizontal angle of the inclined part of the escalator shall be equal to or less than 30°.

GB 50352-2005 "General Principles of Civil Building Design" 6.8.2 Escalators and moving walks shall meet the following requirements:

① The inclination angle of the escalator should not exceed 30°. When the lifting height does not exceed 6m and the rated speed does not exceed 0.50m/s, the inclination angle is allowed to increase to 35°.

②Commercial buildings are often designed according to 30° for comfort and space-saving considerations.
